Seafood that is fresh, memorable and always leaving you wanting more! #Destin #Beach |
While bouncing around the country last week Tigger found himself in the Destin, Florida for dinner and finally got a chance to visit a restaurant for dinner that has been on his list for months now! Not only was the place recommended by MANY of his friends Captain Dave's on the Gulf was started the same year Tigger was introduced to the world nearly 50 years ago!!
The location right on the beach offers some amazing views while you enjoy your meal but that is just the beginning! On Thursday Night there was a great duo performing as they sang various types of songs that filled the well appointed atmosphere with feel-good music that really completed the whole experience! That was nothing short of pure enjoyment!!
If you want to see the menu go to the Captain Dave's on the Gulf web site. The selection is well assembled mostly with seafood items but they offer a burger and steak and chicken for guests who need non-seafood options.
Tigger was shown to a table for 4 by the large windows overlooking the beach and gulf and on that day the sky provided a dramatic display of clouds pushed ashore by a storm system that set off-shore the whole week.
To start, Tigger ordered one of his favorites, Bacon Wrapped Scallops ($13.99). Now, anyone who knows scallops also knows it is easy to find scallops not as good as these but the crispy bacon was a wonderful texture next to some of the most tender scallops EVER! By themselves they were amazing but Captain Dave laid these 6 delightful morsels in a generous serving of their Maple Mustard Sauce that put it over the top!!
Next, along with a modest house salad Tigger was served a loaf of OBVIOUSLY HOME-MADE BREAD served warm and fresh, just like all their seafood! Put butter on it or dip it in that sauce, you decide!
Tigger had to try two entrees on this first visit because the choice between them was simply too difficult!
First, the Stuffed Shrimp Parmesan ($26.99) had several jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat stuffing and topped with the signature Italian Cream Sauce, fresh onions and, of course, Parmesan cheese! #Yummy!! Along with the entrees guests have a choice of a side plus a house salad or cole slaw and two PERFECT Hushpuppies. Tigger chose the fries that were cooked to perfection... no surprise there!
That crab meat left Tigger hungry for more so he added Crab Cakes ($27.99) because this is another favorite with which Tigger measures restaurants like this! Each of the two patties were made with 4 ounces of crab and chock full of tender scrumptious meat surrounded by a perfectly crisp shell! Around the sides of the plate were added diced cucumbers and peppers along with a generous serving of their Pineapple Cream Dipping Sauce. The fried okra was so good it felt like Tigger was back in Grandma's kitchen as a small child gulping them down as fast as they could be made!
They don't take reservations and there is ample parking across old State Highway 98 where the restaurant is located at the east end of the Destin Beach almost into Miramar Beach. There is also handicap spots directly in front of the restaurant that do not require the casual stroll across the not-very-busy beach highway.
Perfect for an individual, couple or family of any size, be sure to make it one of your new favorites when you get there!!!
