Panama Cruise January 2011 - Last Trans-canal trip planned for the Disney Wonder at this time. |
To say Cabo San Lucas is a nice port does not create the right kind of description. It falls too short.
From the looks of the clean and secure city, it could easily be said that 'Cabo San Lucas is a nice US or French Riviera port' but that too would be a lie. Cabo San Lucas is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico but among all the ports and cities of Mexico we have ever visited, this one does not fit! It could easily fit in the nicest area of Southern California or even more exotic locales like the French Riviera.
Walking around the city, one will find a large number of exotic hotels and resorts immediately adjacent to the harbor and beaches surrounding Cabo. These resorts range from affordable to elite! After a short tender in to the port several of these resorts are mere steps from the docks and board walk around the port.
Immediately visible outside of the improved security around town, you will see the iconic lighthouse that marks the entrance to the main shopping area of the city, a dozen blocks of standard made-in-china stuff and even more high quality local artwork worthy of such a nice port of call.
There is a dolphin encounter right there and if you look up the hill behind, there is a sign for Pedregal. Over the hill and to the left (out of site from the port) is a community of homes, many of which can be rented on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Many of these homes are also owned by high profile names in entertainment, sports and more.
Jennifer and I chose to bypass any excursions for our first stop here in favor of a foot bound exploration of the city. After purchasing nice house number tiles for our new home we made our way to the famous Cabo Wabo Cantina about three blocks from the lighthouse.
On the day we arrived, the weather was perfect to sit in the outdoor seating and we made a healthy lunch of their Nachos with beef, cheese and a little refried beans. When we ordered, we were only expecting a snack that would need to be supplemented when we returned to the Disney Wonder but once complete, Jennifer and I both were quite full and satisfied till dinner!
